STPA Certification Project

This course guides you through an STPA project, ending with a formal evaluation of your work for official certification. You will choose a system and apply STPA using the provided templates. You will complete four iterations, starting with simple control-loop models and culminating in a Mini-Project Report. You will submit your work at each iteration and receive individual instructor comments and feedback to incorporate into the next iteration. The final submission is evaluated against the STPA certificate criteria. If the criteria are met, you will receive the STPA Practitioner Certificate. The examples you submit may be used in future classes and presentations.
The STPA Practitioner Certificate provides a formal qualification, validating that you can be trusted to independently apply STPA correctly and demonstrate practitioner-level competence.
Prerequisites:
- Enroll in the System Safety and STPA course, available separately. This can be done before or concurrently with the certification project.
When:
You will work on your own schedule to submit four deliverables on time and receive instructor feedback at each stage. Depending on your experience level, you should plan for about 4–8 hours of work per week. The work is focused on submitting deliverables rather than a specific number of hours.
